Creative Mastery — The Art of the Table
Chicago North Shore · Est. 2024

An evening
set with intention.

The Series

A table set for discerning.

For nearly twenty years, a rarefied circle of collectors, epicures, and connoisseurs has quietly known where to find the finest in-home culinary experiences — intimate, exacting, and utterly unlike the commoditized tasting-menu landscape of the moment. In January 2024, that legacy found its next expression: Creative Mastery, a five-course dinner and wine pairing series that has, in short order, become one of the most coveted invitations among those who take their Burgundy seriously.

This is not a class. It is not a wine night. It is a celebration of the oldest tradition there is — the gathering of a few kindred people around a table set with intention. Each evening, a menu of five courses is composed alongside a hand-selected pairing of wines, curated by our Burgundy-based wine specialist, drawn not from a single cellar but from across the world's most compelling regions. The result is a conversation between plate and pour, built for a room of no more than a handful of guests.

For a guest who has already toured the obvious cellars of the world, Creative Mastery offers something rarer still — genuine discovery, delivered without pretense, in a room built for real conversation. Each dinner is staged in a distinctive private setting, the table dressed as carefully as the menu is composed — a study in atmosphere as much as in gastronomy.

The result is less an event than an experience: unhurried, richly detailed, and designed for those who understand that the best evenings are the ones that can't be replicated at scale.

Featured Wine Selections

2022 Herxheim am Berg Sauvignon Blanc

Pfalz, Germany

From a family winery making wine since 1937 under winemaker Thomas Vogel, in a region the world knows for Riesling — where the Herxheim vineyards have quietly pursued a passion for great white varieties on ideal calcareous soils. A blend of Sauvignon Blanc with a hint of Pinot Blanc: peach, green apple, grapefruit, and white blossoms, with elegant acidity and lime nuances — all at a graceful 11% alcohol that lets the evening linger.

2018 Langtry Special Select "Genevieve Vineyard" Chardonnay

Guenoc Valley, California

From a historic ten-acre vineyard block planted in shallow gravelly clay-loam, crafted in a distinctly Burgundian style — a refreshing departure from richly oaked California expressions. Almond blossom, toasted hazelnut, and Honeycrisp apple unfold with a silky texture and a finish reminiscent of freshly baked apple tart.

Special Select Tollo 100% Sangiovese

Abruzzo, Italy

From a cooperative founded in 1960 by twenty local farmers, rooted in an ancient wine-producing territory cooled by sea breezes off the Maiella. Intense ruby red with wild cherry, elegant spice, and a velvety, structured finish — Sangiovese with muscle, from beyond its familiar Tuscan home.

2017 First Barrel "Alexis Soyer" Pinot Noir

Limited Production — 287 Bottles

A truly rare Pinot Noir from the coveted First Barrel, traditionally reserved for the winemakers and their families. Old World in style — elegance and restraint over ripeness — with black cherry, delicate smoke, and warm baking spice over silky tannins. Named for the celebrated 19th-century French chef Alexis Soyer.

2023 Vigneti Reale "Gloria" Primitivo di Manduria Riserva

Single Vineyard Special Cuvée, Puglia

Only 1,000 bottles produced, unavailable for retail in the United States. Aged twelve months in French oak: ripe plum, black currant, cocoa, and roasted coffee, balanced despite its robust frame by velvety tannins and vibrant acidity — a celebration of patience and craftsmanship.

Our Wine Curator

James Freveletti

Our resident wine specialist has devoted a lifetime to the world of wine — a journey that began in Chicago and has since taken him throughout Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal. His passion is simple: to discover the undiscovered, seeking out exceptional wines crafted by small family estates whose limited production rarely reaches the United States.

By working directly with these winemakers, James brings their remarkable wines from their cellars to our table — bottles seldom found beyond their local villages. Each pour represents more than a beautiful wine: it is an invitation into a family's history, a region's traditions, and generations of dedication to the art of winemaking.
